Presented is a relic from the sailing Bark REGINA,
built in Millbridge, ME in 1873. The vessel of 512 tons was operated by John S. Emerry and home ported in Boston, MA.
It was discovered in Gloucester, MA. The relic would have been mounted along the port
side bow of a merchant sailing vessel, maybe a whaler. It is a rustic carved name board from a single
piece of wood, with superb ageing.
Decorative trailboards were added by seamen and ship builders over the centuries. Authentic
carvings off of actual ships are a rare occurrence, are highly sought after, and increasingly difficult to find. This
is an authentic remnant artifact from sailing ship era.
