I grew up racing these boats in the Chicago area, crewing for some outstanding skippers, so I am especially
pleased to offer this model of the well loved and respected LIGHTNING One Design Class of racing sailboats.
It was designed by Olin Stephens of Sparkman and Stephens in 1938. The first fleet was established at the
Skaneateles Lake Yacht Club in New York state. Since then, more than 15,000 Lightning's have been built and actively raced
in 500 Fleets worldwide.

The model has an accurately shaped hull built using the same method as the
real boats and finished in glistening enamel, with varnished trim. They are Marconi rigged with jib and main. The
running rigging, is authentic to the last detail. She makes an incomparable model and will be a perfect addition
to your home, den or office.
The class has international status and is sailed in thirteen countries which is administered
by one of the largest one design sailing associations. A World Championship is held
every two years. North American, South American and European Championships are held each year as are innumerable regional
and District championships. The International Lightning Class Association (ILCA) protects the boat's design and licenses custom
and private builders to build boats under its administration. There is room for four adults or a family to day sail, but a
crew of three is used when racing.
The Lightning's rig is simple, but offers sophisticated sail shape controls. The hull features
a unique hard chine design that combines the stability that provides sail-carrying power, with flat bottom sections that promote
planing. It's hard chine and 130 pound centerboard give her the stability and power of a small keel boat
going to windward in strong winds.

In 1963, the Rules Committee allowed for hulls to be made from fiberglass.
But our preference is to celebrate the original design. Consequently, we are offering a dark
Blue colored wood hulled model.
MODEL'S CONSTRUCTION: They are built the old fashioned
way, one plank at a time, and hand finished. Every feature of the real boats are exactly reproduced,, and the result is a
model of unsurpassed beauty and quality. You will find the tiniest detail of all the things that make up a sailboat of
this outstanding quality are featured in these models.
Special features of the wood version include:
- Hand planked hull over frames
- Finished in seven coats of hand rubbed enamel
- Varnished brightwork.
- Varnished wood floor boards and thwarts
- Sails pre-hanked to spar
- Class symbol on mainsail
- Accurate standing and running rigging
- Movable tiller and rudder

- And more
MINOR ASSEMBLY REQUIRED: To save cost, this model is
shipped with its mast down. All rigging and the sails are pre-attached simplifying the rigging process. For most people,
it is a simple affair to step the mast and attach the stays and shrouds. They are pre-measured and hook in place. Detailed
instructions are furnished, but if in the rare instance you have a problem, email or call us for guidance.
If you've been browsing through all the boat models offered on the internet, you will
be hard pressed to find something that represents boats that are North American in design, and are executed as finely overall.
You can spend a lot more money for so called "museum quality" detailing, but you can get the same satisfaction from our new
line of moderately priced, high quality models.
OUR FLEET OF MODERATE COST QUALITY MODELS: Don't forget that in
addition to the just launched LIGHTNING Class, we are the source for full hull models of the Schooners Adventuress, America,
