Presented is
a model of perhaps the most famous sport fishing boat ever built. It is PILAR owned by world renown author Ernest Hemingway
that was built for him by the Wheeler Shipyard in New York City in 1934. To finance the purchase, he obtained advances from
two publishers, Esquire and Scribner's which totaled $5500.00. This
model exemplifies the care and attention to detail that the boat builder took in creating this world class sport fish. It
is a really magnificent example of the model maker's art.

case at no extra cost | | Hemingway's contract to
purchase included some new innovations which were seen for the first time in fishing . These included the a sunken
cockpit area lowered by 12 inches, a transom door with its ledge fitted with a roller to haul fish aboard, extra
fuel tanks for an extended range, and a flying bridge. She carried 300 gallons of fuel and 155 gallons of water. Painted jet
black, with green decks and bottom paint, her name was his code for former wife Pauline.
