FAMOUS CONCORDIA YAWL SAILBOAT MODEL - NEW LAUNCHING

Now, you can have a professionally hand crafted, large size, high quality model of the "Concordia Yawl", for a fraction of what has here-to-fore been quoted for a finished model. Compare at up to $1900.00.

CONCORDIA YAWL DIMENSIONS: 21" L x 27" H x 5" W      WEIGHT 3 Lbs
PRICE$ 395.00
SHIPPING AND HANDLING TO 48 STATES $25.00

Our model of the CONCORDIA is built by our new factory with the goal of offering models of exact details in scale, fittings and precision craftsmanship. Like our other models, she is constructed from scratch by skilled craftsmen. Plank on frame just like the original's wood construction. The model is faithful to the original in all details. At each step along the way, it was intended that all operations be painstakingly done by hand including hull paint and varnish. Our aim for high detailing and intricate construction has met our goal for a quality reproduction at a very reasonable price. However, we admittedly fell short in the finishing department and there are a couple of minor imperfections. The boot top along the waterline is too wide, and in some cases paint has seeped out beyond the edge of the masking tape. Also the cove stripe is too wide. You don't notice this in the pictures and you wont notice it from 3-5 feet away, but that's the facts.

Consequently we have reduced the price on these models to a very attractive starting bid of $295.00 compared to the $495.00 for which they were designed to sell. If you are overly particular, and demand perfection, we advise you not to bid on this model. However, if you are looking for a model that captures the heart and soul of yachtsmen, and can live with these two minor imperfections, then this is a great opportunity.

As is, she will make a treasured addition to any collection or décor, and likely increase in value over time like all our models.

OUR GUARANTEE OF SATISFACTION: If not completely satisfied with your purchase for reasons other than the boot top and cove stripe imperfections, it may be returned, if without damage, within three days of receipt in its original packaging. Return items must be insured for their full value. A prior email authorization by us for the return is required. Unfortunately, no refund can be made for the cost of shipping, packaging and handling unless due to our mistake.

CONCORDIA HISTORY:  Llewellyn Howland established Concordia Company, Inc. in 1926.  He named the company after a famous Howland family whaling vessel.  In 1932 Llewellyn transferred the company to his son Waldo, and Marblehead racing celebrity, C. Raymond Hunt.  They redrew the terms of the corporation to more closely fit with the boat business they had created and operated the company as a successful boat brokerage through the 1930's. Waldo Howland, owner of Concordia from 1932 to 1969.

In 1938 the company moved from Boston to Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The move brought Waldo Howland closer to Buzzards Bay, where he had spent his boyhood years sailing.  But the year also brought a devastating blow to the company in the form of the Great Hurricane of '38, which ruined many of the boats moored in Padanaram Harbor including the family's 1890 Colin Archer pilot boat.

Llewellyn hired what was now his son's Concordia Company to design and build a boat to replace this loss.  He wanted a daysailer that could race and cruise in the choppy seas and heavy afternoon breezes of Buzzards Bay.  What started as design number fourteen, just another Concordia boat, became the classic Concordia yawl, one of the most successful and long-lived stock racer/cruisers ever built.  She is 39' 10" overall, with a beam of 10' 3" and carries 650 square feet of sail. When the name Concordia is mentioned, it is the yawl, with her distinctive star and moon covestripe, that comes to mind.

Concordia Company commissioned 103 Concordia yawls between 1938 and 1966 with the German shipyard, Abeking and Rasmussen, constructing all but four of the yawls.  A strong and unique relationship developed between the two companies.

At the time they were building Concordia's, Abeking and Rasmussen were primarily involved in building commercial vessels.  The company was able to produce the yawl at a very reasonable price, leaving many of the final details to the Concordia yard to complete.  The yawls were built out of a relationship of trust and good will – Abeking and Rasmussen actually shipped complete boats to Concordia before receiving final payment. By the 1960’s, economic forces rendered it impossible to continue producing the yawls in Germany.  Irene, hull #103, was the last Concordia to be shipped from Lemwereder in 1966.

Waldo sold the company to Bill Pinney in 1969.  Bill owned the company until 1981, helping to solidify the good reputation the company had built.  During this time, Concordia continued to build the Beetle Cat sailboat, and began developing its facilities to accommodate the ever-increasing need for boatyard services on quality fiberglass yachts.

Brodie MacGregor first visited Concordia Company in 1964 with a New York Yacht Club cruise and developed an immediate fondness for the town of Padanaram and for Concordia Company itself.  Ten years later, after earning an M.B.A. from Harvard University, Brodie moved to Padanaram.  He worked in the office for three years and ultimately purchased the company from Bill Pinney in 1981.
