367260Presented is a handcrafted miniature model of the Dollar Lines Passenger liner President
Hoover which was built for the Panama Lines as the Panama in 1939. Under
the Panama name, she sailed from New York, via
Haiti, carrying only 216 first class passengers and cargo. In 1967, she was sold to American President Lines, renamed the
President Hoover the second Dollar ship of this name, and put into service on a Pacific circuit
from San Francisco to the Orient and back. In 1962 the Dollar Lines replaced her with the larger President Roosevelt. In 1964
she was sold to the Chandris Lines, renamed Regina and had extra cabins in the cargo spaces
added to carry a new total of 650 passengers. As Regina, she cruised for Chandris from 1966 until1979, having been renamed
Regina Prime in 1972 to avoid confusion with the Regina Magna .
After 46 years of total service, she was finally scrapped in 1985.

The workmanship and attention to detail is exceptional. Fully
equipped with all deck gear and cargo handling masts and booms, the model carries on her funnel the emblem with four stars
of the American President Lines. In addition, she is equipped with such things as twin capstans with chain, donkey engines,
cargo masts and booms, hatches, and all the things that exist on the real ship.Stern deck with swimming poolCargo hatches and forepeakMidship section of superstructure
This
work is mindful of the Van Ryper models of the 1940-1960’s which sell at auction for $600.00 or more.
CONDITION: There is a significant loss
of paint at a small area at the bow, and a small loss of paint in a few places on the light Grey hull, all marks of age. It
does not appear that any lifeboats were ever mounted. There are some minor signs of handling, but overall this model is in
excellent condition with everything adding up to a great work of miniature model maker’s art. A careful dusting by the new
owner is in order.
SIGNED There is hand lettered on the bottom the ship’s particulars plus
Jap. Utility, Patent No. 367260 and the initials M.S.
