is an outstanding example of a 2 3/4 inch pocket globe that dates back to the 18th Century. It is stored in
a round wood sphere with shagreen covering. The edges of the
case are painted rust, with a brass hook and eye. On
the globe, between Asia and North America, there is a rectangle with black border marked, “A correct GLOBE
with new discoveries”. The areas of the land and ocean are hand colored with engraved regions and the two undefined polar
caps. The equatorial line is graduated in degrees west of Greenwhich and the celestial ecliptic is graduated in days
of the houses of the zodiac.

CONDITION:
The shagreen covered shell that the globe is housed in has earlier repaired cracks that date back to when it was acquired
60 some years ago. The globe has a few tiny losses of varnish which show as white spots. It has a band of darken
one half inch on either side of he equator from handling. At the North pole there is a 1/8 inch loss of varnish. A careful
cleaning by an expert would liven up the colors. There is a hole at either pole for use with a small dowel to inspect
it. (Not included). Considering its 300 plus year age, it is in very good condition.
