Presented is a three
light 12 bolt Japanese dive helmet that is a near perfect match to the Kaiyo Diving Bell Industry vintage helmet
shown on page 266 of Leon Lyons’ encyclopedic book, “Helmets of the Deep”. This one has the addition of a spitcock
mounted on the left side when facing the viewer. This helmet has no tinning and its metalwork has taken on a unique dull bronze
coloration. A maker’s tag is also not fitted and there are no numbers on the bonnet or breast plate. The construction
throughout is simple, but of good quality. There is no communication fitted.CONDITION: Inside,
a full vent is fitted as a ring above the three ports. The internal interrupted threads on the top and bottom
rings line up properly and the bonnet comes off easily. There is a locking device at the rear, but the locking pin needs
to be replaced. We have been unable to unscrew the front port. The helmet has minor scratches
and light discoloration, but mostly has a pleasing dark bronze patina. There is no speaker fitted. The helmet does not
look like it has been used.Like all diving gear, this is being sold for DISPLAY ONLY. It should not be dived
without having passed inspection by a certified dive shop.

PROVENANCE: Purchased at auction in
