Presented is a Vince WW II Navy MK V dive knife that is in excellent condition. it was purchased at auction in 2014 from
the estate of a second generation commercial diver. Subject only to the normal aging process, it is in perfect condition,
but the maker’s mark is illegible because of aging. The swivel loop extension on the pommel called a “bail” stands
proud and the Navy MK V sheath is perfect with a pronounced patina of age. Little is known of the company
that made these distinctive knives, but most knife experts believe them to be first introduced in 1935 and made
until shortly after WW II.

PROVENANCE:
From the estate of a second generation hard hat diver, and the son of a member of the salvage team of the 17
month project to refloat the French ocean liner Normandie on the Hudson River that completed in 1947. Not only did the deceased
have an incredible hard helmet and diving equipment collection, he also, in his lifetime, managed to assemble an amazing collection of
anything related to diving.

pitting. Two features made the Vince knife distinctive. The first is
a brass loop that is fitted to the pommel on a swivel that rotates around its circumference. It is called a bail. This
was the only Navy MK V knife that has this feature. The second is the tiny teeth that are along the top serrated edge
that number 13 to the inch. Vince was a small company and only made these
knives in limited numbers so their knives are very scarce. Many are have the loop-bail broken off and rusted and
broken blades.  Because of their rarity, even damaged ones are still prized by collectors.

for the normal aging process, this knife and its sheath are in excellent condition. The blade is tight in the ferrule
and the wood handle has all its bright varnish. The brass brail swivel bail is attached. The
sheath has a drain hole.
