An engine room telegraph or E.O.T is a communications device used on a SHIP (or SUBMARINE) for the pilot on the bridge to order engineers in the engine room to power the vessel at a certain desired speed. In early vessels, from the 19th century until about 1950, the device usually consisted of a round dial about 9 inches (230 mm) in diameter with a knob at the center attached to one or more handles and an indicator pointer on the face of the dial. A series of bells are emitted with each change of the settings on the dial. The same bells would be sent to the engine room to notify the engineers of the change in orders. The engineers would move the telegraph dial to the same setting to acknowledge their receipt of the order.

Condition: Our telegraph has seen some rough use and is missing the oil lamp. You will note the square opening on the side of the telegraph. The handles move and ring accordingly but require more force than they would normally. These issues are reflected in the price.
