Presented is a stunning carved 23K gold leaf classic American Eagle with American flags draped over arrows. This is done in the stern board style and is reminiscent of the famous New England carver, John Bellamy. It was done in 1975 for a gentleman in North Carolina by
Robert H. Locke of York Harbor, Maine.
This beautiful carving has resided indoors and is in perfect condition.

John Bellamy set a standard for creating some of the most beautiful eagle carvings for ships and general display in his day. Many contemporary carvers have adopted styles after Bellamy for their classic beauty.
Carver’s Identification and Date
The most famous American nautical woodcarver was John Haley Bellamy. He worked out of Kittery, Maine, in the 1860s and 1870s. Bellamy made his living by carving eagles for ships and the home. The beautiful lines and style of his eagles were very much in demand, and many fine carvers in recent decades have copied his style.
