Presented is a finely cast miniature of a Mid 19th Century bronze signal cannon with reinforced chamber. It’s design and proportions identify it as a reduced size Model 1841 six pounder that was prominently used during the Mexican War period, 1846-1848, and carried forward into the Civil War. The casting obviously languished for years, and acquired a nice patina of age and verdigris.   CONDITION: The cannon appears to be cast in one piece with the trunnions in the center of the tube. The bore is drilled 4 3/4″. There are no mold marks or inscriptions. All were discontinued on the Model 1857 Napoleon that replaced the 6 and 12 pounders as the smooth bore of choice during the Civil War.
