Presented is a pair of gold bullion British Royal Navy
epaulets mounted in a custom Plexiglas case. These epaulets date to approximately 1895 and are identified by the single silver
anchor for the lowest commissioned rank of sub-lieutenant. Epaulettes first
appeared on British uniforms in the second half of the 18th century. The epaulette was officially incorporated into the Royal
Navy uniform regulations in 1795, although some officers wore them before this date. Flag Officers were to wear silver stars
on their epaulettes to distinguish their ranks. Captains with at least three years seniority were to have plain epaulettes,
the Junior Captains and Commanders having only one apiece to be worn on the right and left shoulders respectively. CONDITION:
The two gold bullion epaulets are in “fine“
original condition” with a nice patina of age. The Plexiglas case is in “like new” condition.
