Hemingway’s contract to
purchase included some new innovations which were seen for the first time in fishing. These included the sunken
cockpit area lowered by 12 inches, a transom door with its ledge fitted with a roller to haul fish aboard, extra
fuel tanks for an extended range, and a flying bridge. She carried 300 gallons of fuel and 155 gallons of water. Painted jet
black, with green decks and bottom paint, her name was his code for former wife Pauline.
