Presented is a pleasant and very friendly carving of a Sperm Whale.  Our whale appears to be smiling (we think).  Carved whales are a particular favorite of maritime folk art collectors.  Whaling was such a substantial part of our early history in America and New England, providing some of our most important literary works.

Our whale is mounted on a metal post with a base that looks like it could have been a decorative piece of a stair banister.
