Burnished Gold American Eagle Carving
with Stars and Stripes Shield
Dimensions: 46″ x 14″ x 6″
Weight: 4 lbs
Presented is an American Eagle Carving by an unknown artist. This fine piece shows our eagle clutching a Stars and Stripes Shield in his talons.
After the success of the Revolution, the Continental Congress was looking for a symbol for our national seal. Many alternatives were considered from roosters to zebras and beavers, along with some ancient historical figures. Thankfully, considering some of the suggestions, the Bald Eagle won the day. The eagle was depicted with the motto held in his beak: “E Pluribus Unum” -” out of many, one”. This fine elegant bird was felt to present a “powerful image of liberty”.
